Fort Meigs and Clara J's

Today we had a marvelous day with the guide Amber who interpreted the War of 1812. We explored what it was to be like as a soldier here in the wilderness of NW Ohio. Fort Meigs was our first stop of the

day. Amber was our tour interpreter. She did a superb job! Her generosity was incredible. She kindly left all who wanted to hold her musket and pose for pics.
After our wonderful two hour tour with Amber, we experienced lunch, in a lovely Georgian style home, which was very tasty. The experience was also to educate students about another economic level of person who lived in this part of NW Ohio. Because we often only consider the brave settler who conquered the wilderness, there is no realization that others from different socio-economic level also came to take advantage of the wildernss and its richness.

  1. It is an amazing day, we went the Meigs fort. I like military things very much. It is my first to such a place. We saw guns, bunkers, cannon and the guide is a girl who wears an American army uniform. I also touched the real rifle which was used for fighting. The shooting distance is 50 yards.

The tea house is a special restaurant which women like. The food is delicious, for the tea I think it's like beverage more, because I come from China which has the most population to drink tea in the world.

  2. Very Nice HanTao! I am glad you liked the fort. I think some of the best history learned is the type we can touch, feel and even smell. I was impressed by the smell of the black powder. One of the things I was surprized about was the fact that I liked the smell of the powder. Of course, I wouldn't want to use it as perfume, but I did like the smell. Amber did a great job leading us. She was very enthusiastic.

As for the Tea House...it was yet another experience in history. Remember that people from all walks of life moved to this area for different reasons. Wealthier women would have most certainly had such places to meet together and chat.

  3. Hellooo, yestarday we explored a new different things about the history of NorthWest Ohio. The Meigs Fort was such a nice place. I prefer the Tea house that Meigs Fort because in the tea house we just having a good time and relax with the sweet tea, but in the Meigs Fort every things were about killing people, guns with powder, and whatever is in that war. Although, the costume of that girl, who was the guide in Meigs Fort was wonderful, I think I'm going to wear it in the next halloween party. Finally, I had a wonderful time there with my favorite class. Also I learned many thing about that war, which it was between the British and American armies. I am every exciting for the new exploring on Monday.

  4. Today we had the great opportunity to visit Fort Meigs which is an important place in the history of the United States of America. In this Fort, located in Perrysburg, the War of 1812 took place. This was a war where the U.S.A. and Great Britain fought as a consequence of the British attacks to American ships. Here, we learned more about the NW Ohio history, and the struggles of the U.S.A. in order to defend its territory.

  5. Today, we went to Fort Meigs. We learned about the Ohio war in 1812 from the guide Ambar and looked around the place where past soldiers had spent at that time. The impressed thing was the thing that Amber shot with the rifle after it's explantion.
In the afternoon, we went to the so unique restaurant named Clara J's. At the restaurant, the owner told us about the story of that buliding while crying. She was so sensitive. It was so great although the price of the lunch was littlebit expensive. :)

  7. Anwar, I think most of the things in the fort is for killing people, but there are still many things are used for other purposes. For example, the tent, the cooker.......
