Marblehead Lighthouse and Wolcott House

Wow! What a beautiful day we have had! From the lovely clarity of the view from the lighthouse to the viewing of the home of the first lightkeeper, we had the chance, once again, to walk were brave people have lived, worked and survived in Northwest Ohio. From our explorations, what do you think the lighthouse did for the area?

Would you have liked to have carried Whale oil up the old wooden stairs to the top of the lighthouse? Why did Jeremijah build his house? Does the house seem like a nice place to raise a family on the frontier of Ohio? Would you have raised your family here? Would you have ridden a horse over a mile everyday to work just to carry the oil to the top of the lighthouse and keep the fires burning?

  1. After a two hours driving we got the beach of Lake Erie. The lighthouse is beside the beach, it seems not too high. The stairway inside is twisting; when I was going up the building my head was confused. I can see a good view from the top of the lighthouse. I think the lighthouse was built for guiding the ships at that age, it was practical.

The first three keepers of the lighthouse was living in a house where is more than one miles from the lighthouse. So, they have to ride a horse to get the lighthouse everyday. The keeper’s house is not big, and now it is totally supported by donation.

  2. what a wonderful day that I had there.I'm glad because we eat our lunch there together and saw that lighthouse. I assume the lighthouse was helping the people in the dark to know the area. So, they might not go to a wrong place. Also, I don't like to care of that oil up there in that old wooden stairs to the top of the lighthouse, because I beleive that I should take care of it all the time, and I don't like to work on that thing of work. I think maybe I will make the people in the lake make an accedint and go to a diffrent place. lol. I think Mr. Jeremijah told his queen that he will build a house for her, if he is going to get married. Well, I don't think so the house seem like a nice place to raise a family on the frontier of Ohio, I don't know why, but that's my opinion. Although, I don't like to have raised my family there, Especially in this time because it's change now. hahahahaahaha, if I have me own horse and I must to care of that lighthouse. also, to keep the fires burning. I will always be late and the Fishermen will be angry of me. So, I beleive they will kick me out of there. lol. There is no more signature here. :P lol

  3. What the advantage to go to trip without Adventure so, I agree with Dorinda we have to go to trip without GPS just map. It is a wonderful day ever I had, I learned a lot of things when I exploring about North West Ohio history, especially the lighthouse was helped the people in the ships and who need help in the dark night. Although, I believe that Mr. Jeremijah who was the first keeper a good man because he built his house for her wife and he lived there for ten years only. Believe or not the second day after the trip I went with my family because I like it a lot also I had fun. The last thing I want to say >>>>>> seriously I am looking for next trip for many reason

  4. Another place we had the great opportunity to visit in order to learn more about Lake Erie and its significance in the development of Northwest Ohio was Marblehead Lighthouse State Park, where the lighthouse is used for navigational aids along the Great Lakes. During the first years of the lighthouse, the caretaker didn’t have other option to the whale oil up. Through the time, the old-fashioned techniques have been modernized until nowadays. Obviously, it was a rough work, so neither pioneers nor me, would have liked to do this work. The lighthouse keeper's house, in my opinion, was a pretty comfortable home to raise a family.

  5. We went to the Marbleheard Lighthouse and the keeper's house. The lighthouse was built in early 17th century. It was amazing that the lighthouse has been still using until now. At the top place, I could see great view around the place, also Cedar Point! At the keeper's house of the lighthouse, we explored about how they had lived there. The house has been being shown to visitors.

  6. Anwar, I think you are right for the usefulness of the lighthouse. My country has a long coastline so there are many buildings which like the lighthouse along the coastline. Do you have many this kind of buildings in your country.
