The Little Red Schoolhouse

The Little Red Schoolhouse!

What a step back in time! The Little Red Schoolhouse is a unique piece of memorabilia housed on the campus of Bowling Green State University. Today we explored what a child may have experienced in the 1880's during the time when the Great Black Swamp was being conquered. What would was a dunce? What did students write on when doing their lessons? Would you have liked to have been a student in a one room schoolhouse? What was the best part of the visit to the schoolhouse? Would you like to be a marm in the Little Red Schoolhouse? Have a good evening and get ready to go on a canalboat ride! ~Dorinda~

  1. What I enjoyed the most of visiting The Little Red Schoolhouse was feel that we traveled through the time, more than 130 years ago. It was an unforgetable experience. We were able to learn first hand how those students, despite the lack of space and facilities, went ahead with their studies.

  2. It is a very good place to visit. The school has about 133 year’s history. When I sat in the classroom, I felt how children studied in that age. The best thing in the school for me is that old piano which is out of tuning nowadays. My major is music performance, classical music is my favorite. I played couple notes on that aged piano. It was amazing; I have a very different feeling than playing music in the practice room. Because the music what I played is in old age not contemporary.

  4. It was a wonderful experience and the class i have had. We bacame old students and experienced many things that old songs, old desk, old stove and so on.
Dunce would be a student who did not obey the teacher's order or was a stupid person. They wrote about the homeworks or what they learned on the small tablet. Everything was the best part of the visit. If i have to choose on of them, it will be old books. I found them in a drawer and saw many books which was used in the past.

  6. Halloo,
Some time is better to us to look at memorabilia. As we know BGSU has collection of 1940 education memorabilia located in the campus. When we visited it I felt that education in the past was very important to us. Also I was wondering how all that things is remained until now.
